My dear friend Zena is in the center of this picture. She is the mother of 3 amazing daughters. She has polio and then in 1990 got post polio syndrome, which put her in a power chair. This has not stopped her at all from accomplishing things throughout her life. She has and is raising 3 daughters, two of which are teenagers. Zena has competed in the wheelchair games in Ohio, Michigan, and South Carolina. In 2011 she went to Guadalajara and competed and won a gold medal. Since then, she has competed in the Paralympics in London and earned a bronze medal. Both medals were for discus. Zena belongs to an athletic team and when her teams go places to compete, Zena makes sure all the athletes have a chance to go, by transporting as many as she can. She also handles all the transportation for her and her girls everyday. Her van is held together by love and is wearing out fast. She cannot afford a new one. She takes her girls to school everyday. When her van is acting up she stays in it all day. As to not bother someone else with the responsibilities of getting her daughters home. Zena speaks at the schools in her town about her life experiences. Zena has 2 grandchildren. And if at all possible, doesn’t miss any event in their life. I have watched her put wood up to get in her van when the ramp wont work. Just not to disappoint someone . You can see her life story on Facebook. Look for Zena Cole and Cheer Ogie. Her life is an amazing one. She has so much in life to still accomplish, but transportation is a big issue. Thank you for reading my story.
