My name is Stephanie Santiago and I want to introduce you to my Hero, he is my son Casey “Super C” Walker. He is my only child and for 16 years we were the normal mother and son team, we were always on the go with Casey participating in sports and school activities, sharing good times and bad, but most of all loving each other. Then in the blink of an eye our world changed, on December 4, 2004 Casey fell out of the back of a truck and suffered a near fatal Traumatic Brain Injury. He was in a coma for almost 3 months and now is in what is called a minimally conscious state. Since his injury I have been on a search to find any and all information about Traumatic Brain Injuries and one of the places has been on Facebook looking for others who suffer from Traumatic Brain Injuries. I came across a page called Traumatic Brain Injury Support and since last June have been one of the page administrators. With this opportunity it gave me the chance to share everything I have learned about TBI with others and to learn what others have been through and are still experiencing. Through this page Casey and I are able to be a team again and be part of a very special community that has become an extended family for us and to show that even though you may not have a voice anymore you can still help others and show the world that you are an important part of society. I hope we are helping to make a difference in other peoples lives because I know they have all made a huge impact on ours with the outpouring of love they show for Casey. Along with him no longer having a voice he is also confined to a wheelchair and living in rural South Texas we have recently had to begin relying on an ambulance service to get Casey to his doctors appointments because the van we have has become unreliable for us to make the hour long trip to San Antonio. A new van would help open up Casey’s world again and allow him to start participating in life again.
