My name is Erin, I am 26 and from Indianapolis. I was born with Osteogenesis Imperfecta (brittle bones). I have broken over 450 bones in my life and use a power wheelchair to get around, but I don’t let it stop me from enjoying life! I have had many struggles, and not all of them are related to my disability. I have fought hard to stay positive through it all, and I feel God has blessed my life! I know things could be much worse for me! One of my biggest goals is to drive. In 2007 my brother passed away and I developed severe anxiety and depression. The anxiety kept me from doing a lot of things, and one of the major things it kept me from doing is driving. It took a long time but I have finally gotten a grip on my anxiety and depression, and I want to drive! My current vehicle is to big for me to safely drive, the suspension is bad, and I cannot open the door or operate my lift and tie downs on my own. Recently I met the man of my dreams, actually, even the man of my dreams was not as amazing as he is! He also has brittle bones just like me! He lives two hours away from me, and not having the ability to drive makes visiting difficult. I plan to move near him sometime this year, but I need to get my license and a safe vehicle before I do. Moving there without being able to drive and being independent will be very difficult. I have a 7 year old nephew that is like a son to me. When I move I will want to visit him and my family a lot! I want so badly to get my life moving forward again. For many years my life has stood still. I want to get back into school, get a job, start a life with my boyfriend, and be involved in my nephews life as much as possible! An adapted van would mean the world to me, and if I won I feel like I could finally do all of the things I dream of doing! I would feel honored to receive an amazing gift like this, and I would not let it go to waste! It would truly change my life forever!
