Ignatius Ehlinger is my nephew. He was born without a cerebellum. This effects his balance and fine motor skills. It is hard to understand him sometimes and he has mobility issues. I, Joan Abruzzo, as his aunt and also as an attendant of his have watched his speech improve over the years. Ignatius is 11 years old and loves just about anything. He is enjoying Challengers baseball and being a Squire for the Knights of Columbus. His greatest wish right now is to go to Hawaii. He loves to participate in Special Olympics. With Special Olympics, he has done Bowling, Swimming, and Basketball. They are about to start Kickball through Special Olympics this May. He also participates in Adaptive Aquatics and Books and Barks (reading to dogs). He is a member of Eddie’s Club and is associated with The Arc of Warren County.
Ignatius loves to be active on his Special Trike or with his walker and stander. He is in a wheelchair and wears AFO’s with Adaptive shoes. He attends Speech, Occupational, and Physical Therapies and receives Vision services. In order for him to be as active as he is in the community he needs reliable transportation to get to everything he does.

I feel this family is one of the most deserving families that I know. Yes they are related to me, but because they are related to me I see everything that they do. Besides being very active in their community, they are very active in the disabilities community. Winifred Ehlinger, my sister and Ignatius’ mom, is the Community Outreach Coordinator for the Special Education Advisory Committee for Warren County. She is an active volunteer for Challenger’s baseball, Special Olympics, and the ARC of Warren County. Winnie also supports Special Needs children through Ressie Jeffries Elementary School’s PTO as well as SN children and adults through Saint John’s, including teaching SN’s Sunday School and being a contact for their Support Group for Parents of Children with Special Needs.
Remember that your votes will help Winnie continue to get Ignatius to all his activities and allow him to continue being an active member of his community. Thank you for your support as we pray for everyone entering this contest.
