Hi my name is Joan Abruzzo.  My nephew, Ignatius Ehlinger, is my hero. Ignatius is 10 years old and was born with cerebellar agenesis.  He is missing his cerebellum which controls fine motor, speech, and balance.  He uses a wheelchair and his family is in need of a handicapped van.  Their 2001 non-accessible van died in October.  Ignatius’ family well deserves a new van.  They are very supportive of their community and help other families with handicapped children.  My sister is always helping with fundraisers for other families and groups, especially Challengers baseball and Special Olympics, where both her sons are able to participate.

Let me tell you a little more about my nephew and why he is my hero.  He always has a smile on his face.  He loves to be out and about doing things with Challengers Baseball and Special Olympics.  I have seen his speech improve over the past several years due to his mother’s love and patience and his speech therapy he’s been able to get to because of his parents’ perseverance in difficult times.  Ignatius is very sweet and loving towards everyone.  He loves playing with his younger brother and his many friends he has made by being able to attend Challengers Baseball and Special Olympics.  He also enjoys reading to the dogs at the library and has been taking swimming classes.  I would love for him to be able to continue all of these activities and more.  He also has a lot of therapy to get to each week.  They are currently borrowing a van that is old and not accessible.  As he gets older his needs are becoming more difficult for my sister to work.  She has to be able to lift him in and out of the van and his chair also in and out of the chair.  I want to see this well deserving family in a van that will help them get around a little more easily and make it possible for them to do more for the community.  My sister helps out with some support groups and community outreaches and a new van would help her be able to continue her work.  Please vote for my nephew.  He is amazing and I promise, you would be helping a very well-deserving family.
