Here’s our little hero Jonah, taking care of his little brother. Jonah has Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA). This is a progressive muscle wasting disease that causes him to have respiratory and swallowing issues, along with not being able to walk, crawl or even sit unsupported for long. His bones are brittle due to not weight-bearing and his joints are starting to dislocate which is causing some chronic pain. Despite all his physical trials, he is really amazing at spreading love and joy and laughter. We love watching him play with his little toys and hearing his stories. His power chair has been everything from a tractor to a fire truck. Currently, it is his big rig logging truck. He loves driving it around outside “hauling loads”, going through puddles, getting it stuck, etc… Imagination aside, it isn’t easy to take with us anywhere. We wrestle the back seat out of our van, load it with a portable ramp, and then drive a second vehicle to fit all of us if we’re going somewhere as a family of eight. He will need to start taking it more often wherever he goes. Transferring is getting harder as he gets older and more fragile. He will be starting preschool soon we hope. We have no way of purchasing an accessible van any time in the near future. Please take a minute every day and vote for Jonah! It’s a totally free way to help out! Thank you!
