Kaylee Rae was born 10/5/11 and for awhile everything seemed perfect. Around four months of age her parents started to notice that she was still not able to hold her head up or track objects like other babies her age were doing. She was also having episodes where she got really stiff for a few seconds. On top of all that she was sleeping all the time. Her doctor recommended for her to get a MRI and EEG. The results showed that Kaylee Rae has bilateral generalized Polymicrogyria. Polymicrogyria means that she has many small folds on her brain. Kaylee Rae was also diagnosed with epilepsy. The doctors said they did not know if she would ever be able to do anything. Soon after that she went in for an eye exam. There she was diagnosed with cortical vision impairment meaning her eyes were ok but the vision part of her brain was not working right. With time and lots of therapy her vision can improve. Kaylee Rae is a very happy little girl. Her vision is slowly improving and everyday she is learning new things. Kaylee also has a feeding tube because a swallow study showed that she was aspirating. She works hard and has therapy monday thru friday every week. She works with a physical therapist, speech therapist, occupational therapist and a vision teacher. Recently she started getting aquatic therapy too! Kaylee Rae is such a strong little girl and she has taught her parents and everyone around her so much about life. Since she can not walk she uses a wheelchair to get around. As she grows it is becoming harder for her mother to get her from her carseat to her wheelchair multiple times a day. It would be amazing if we could get Kaylee a handicap van to transport her to all her therapies and doctors appointments. You can learn more about Kaylee by visiting her facebook page Kaylee Rae’s Story. Please help us make this dream of getting Kaylee the van she needs possible! Thank you!
