My daughter Laura has Cerebral Palsy with a seizure disorder. She has never walked or talked. We have a 1996 conversion van with lift, before the used lift was given to us, we used ramps. The Van has no air-conditioning, does not start reliably, and the lift is almost to its weight limit. Laura will turn 29 this year. I am her mother. I am retired and on disability. Due to rheumatoid arthritis, I use a walker and wheel chair. We do not have money to fix the van we have, or to buy a new one. It has been looked at by a mechanic who could not figure out why the new battery was not holding a charge. When we go anywhere we have to jump it off to start it. Either the caregiver or I stay in the van and keep it running during the office visit or event. When this van finally stops going, we will have no transportation for Laura.
