I would like to introduce you to Olga Rezendis, a single mom of five- three of which are identical triplets who are afflicted with muscular dystrophy. The boys, Alejandro, Armando, and Fernando are now eleven years old, and are confined to wheelchairs.
I met Olga, and her children five years ago. Despite the difficulties that have been stacked against her, I have always known her to be a loving, patient, caring mom who has always managed to almost keep her sanity. She does her best to insure that they have their needs taken care of both physically, and emotionally. They are well adjusted, happy, loving children who love their mom and siblings. The boys love going to watch their mom and brother play soccer. They also love going to baseball games, and playing video games. Despite her limited income, Olga has always managed to find some wonderful people who have helped her with transportation and their time because they care about the children. The children are now bigger and heavier and mom has to carry them in her arms from the wheelchair to the car every time they go somewhere. They are not able to take their wheelchairs with them, so they have to resort to using strollers which are bad for their backs as they are becoming more and more “fragile”.
While many people would have just given in to despair, seeing their children go from running and playing on the playground, to being wheelchair bound at the age of nine- Olga is determined to give her boys the most enjoyment in everyday things she can, for as long as possible.
Olga’s other two children Evelyn (13) and Mario (15) are typical teen agers who want to hang out with their friends, and play sports. They are loving, well-adjusted children who are very instrumental in assisting their mom with the triplets as well.
I think that Olga is a hero for providing all of her children with a happy and stabile home environment despite all of the difficulties they face. She gives her all to provide a good quality of life.
This van would enable Olga to continue to give her boys the quality of life mobility makes possible.
Thank you for your consideration.
