Hello, my name is William Pfingston, back in 2005 my life was forever changed because of a tornado that tore through the Evansville area. My sisters and I were all injured but I was the most severe with a severed vertebra causing permanent paralysis and limited hand mobility as well as the amputation of part of my foot due to frost bite, Since that horrifying night my life has been in a downwards spiral every since. The community did come together and we were able to get an older used van donated to us as well as a used wheelchair lift. Once my rehabilitation was completed in Indianapolis we were on the way home when we began having problems out of the van which included a fire under the dash which required us to carry a fire extinguisher at all times. After about one year the
Wheelchair lift began to malfunction and ultimately quit working which required it to be manually raised and lowered. The van just kept getting worst over the next 5 years with break downs, electrical issues and heating and air conditioning issues. Our van finally quit running (oddly enough) in October 2011, I remember the month because it was on my Birthday, we had barely made it home when the van completely died, the entire electrical system burned up, it was done, the only thing my mom could do was to sell it for junk, now we have no reliable transportation to get myself or my sister (who has cerebral palsy) to our very much needed Dr’s appointments or being able to get out to go to family functions on the Holidays. In order for me to go on a Doctors appointment I have to ride the city bus which can take up to 2 or more hours one way. I now have to go to a specialist in Indianapolis for more medical and health issues and I have no way to be transported. There are no Medicaid vehicles that transport from Evansville to
Indianapolis therefore I have had to ride in my father’s vehicle and I cannot take my wheelchair along which makes it even more difficult because I have to be lifted in and out of his vehicle. My need for a reliable, dependable vehicle is great and this contest is the only way that I can think of to get a back to a somewhat normal life, please vote for me so that i can make life on my Mom and family easier.
Thank You and God Bless.
