TAMPA, Florida (April 16, 2014) – The National Mobility Equipment Dealers Associations (NMEDA) is hitting record numbers of engagement and support since the launch of it annual Local Heroes online contest for National Mobility Awareness Month. Each day, increasing numbers of individuals are submitting nominations for the Local Heroes Contest and casting votes for their preferred nominees. Currently, there are 1,100 entries, 2.3 million visitors to the website, 11.8 million page views resulting in more than 1.7 million votes. Compared to last year’s statistics the number of votes and page views have doubled. NMEDA will award four deserving “Local Heroes” a wheelchair accessible vehicle tailored to meet their needs.
With four weeks remaining for entries and votes, there are more than a dozen stories with 10,000 votes or more. Local Heroes, their caregivers, friends and family members are encouraged to continue submitting entries on through Friday, May 9, 2014. Nominees are then encouraged to gain support and votes to qualify for one of the four wheelchair accessible vehicles. Winners will be contacted by Friday, May 30, 2014. Sponsors this year include, Toyota, Chrysler, Mobility Ventures LLC, VMI and BraunAbility.
